How to Volunteer

Volunteers are needed Saturday mornings at the Recycling Center to unload vehicles and distributing recyclable. The goal is to process vehicles as quickly as possible to avoid idling emissions and wait time.

Volunteers should be at least 14 years old unless accompanied by an adult. Individuals are welcome anytime. Groups are encouraged to schedule a Saturday with JoAnne Jones (402) 830-6898 [jmj.jonesy@gmail.com]. Individual and group volunteers typically arrive at 8:00 am and stay until noon when the Center closes. (Groups may split shifts if that is more convenient.)

For the safety of our volunteers, we recommend the following:

  •  Safety Vest (provided)
  •  Ear Protection
  •  Eye Protection
  •  Closed toe shoes
  •  Gloves

Volunteers should wear clothing that they don’t mind getting a little dirty. In the winter it can get cold inside because the main garage doors are opened and closed often so please dress warmly.  Most volunteers assist with unloading cars. As cars arrive, recyclables are taken from truck beds, trunks, or back seats and walked to the various sorting stations. Water, coffee, hot chocolate and homemade snacks are provided.
